Hidden Gems Around Fredericksburg: Lavender Fields, Peach Orchards & More

While Fredericksburg is known for its wineries and German charm, the surrounding Hill Country is full of lesser-known treasures that offer a quieter, more local experience — and many of them are just a short drive from Walnut Canyon Cabins.

In late spring and early summer, don’t miss the region’s lavender farms. Hill Country Lavender in nearby Blanco (about 45 minutes away) is one of the first commercial lavender farms in Texas. Closer to home, you’ll often spot roadside stands selling homemade lavender soaps, oils, and sachets — especially during Lavender Fest in June.

Summer also marks the start of peach season, and Fredericksburg peaches are famous across the state for their sweetness. Just 10–15 minutes from Walnut Canyon Cabins, you’ll find roadside orchards and farm stands offering fresh peaches, homemade cobblers, jams, and even peach ice cream. Look out for names like Vogel Orchards, Gold Orchards, or Burg’s Corner.

For a peaceful and scenic walk, explore Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, about 20 minutes away, where nature trails wind through native plants, creeks, and shaded picnic spots. It’s a great place to relax without the crowds.

After your day of picking, walking, and exploring, head back to Walnut Canyon Cabins, where the quiet Hill Country landscape invites you to unwind with a view — and maybe a bag of fresh peaches in hand.
